Well, it all began here.

The Voiceless collection has been in hiding since before the pandemic. The reason for this is simple. I wanted to create a series of rock studies so I may learn how to render rocks in watercolour. As time went on, these rock studies slowly developed into the Ometti Collection and a new series was born.

However, the paintings above are the first four pieces in the Voiceless Collection and a precursor to Ometti Collection. Both series, in their own way, convey similar emotions and explore similar themes. In the Ometti Collection, the rocks replace the human form found in Voiceless, and the rocks are displaced and lack a setting. Only raw, unsettling feelings and emotions are left for the viewer—no other context. Each stone clings to the other, creating this tension and uneasiness, anticipating rocks succumbing to gravity's force. While in Voiceless, the human form is wrapped or surrounded by seemingly benevolent flora. Again, tension and an uncomfortable feeling are observed and felt.

Now it's time to take these four paintings out, push them even further, and explore the ideas of overcoming imposed and self-inflicting barriers through storytelling and symbolism. Of course, I will continue with the cairns and rock gardens, but I believe it's time for the Voiceless collection to be seen and heard.
